法亀寺は北斗市（旧大野町）日蓮宗実業寺の末寺です。
1849（嘉永２）大野村東下村に法亀庵として建てられ、その後法亀寺に改称し、1889（明治22）年現在地に移転しました。
境内にある一本のしだれ桜は推定樹齢300年で高さは12mくらい。
シダレザクラとは、エドヒガンザクラの変種で枝が枝垂れるものをいいます。別名イトザクラともよばれていて、垂れ下がった枝いっぱいに花が咲きますが、これほど見事な桜は北海道では特に珍しいのだそうです。
