福島町は二人の横綱が誕生した町です。
1人は道産子初の横綱、第41代横綱千代の山。もう一人は国民栄誉賞にも輝いた、第58代横綱千代の富士です。
夏は九重部屋がこの記念館で合宿を行うことでも有名で、その稽古風景を見学することもできます。
内部には優勝杯や化粧まわしの展示や、両横綱の名勝負、名場面の映像も紹介しています。
また、道の駅横綱の里ふくしまが駐車場横に併設されており、こちらでは福島町の特産品を手に入れることができます。
