国道228号線沿いにある道の駅。名前の「もんじゅ」の由来は、駅から20ｍほど離れた場所にある、知恵の仏・文珠菩薩に似た「文珠岩」からつけられました。
勝山館や上国寺、上ノ國八幡宮、笹浪家からも近いので、旧跡を訪れたあとの小休止にはピッタリの場所です。
また、道の駅の海側には遊歩道があります。
珍しい海に関する書籍を集めた「海の図書館」、海のレストランもあるので、じっくり滞在するのもおすすめです。
2012年6月12日から、駐車場横にワンちゃん広場（ドッグラン）がオープン。無料で利用できるので、ワンちゃんとドライブ中の方々にピッタリですね。
