武井の島は、「むいのしま」と読みます。
この島は「ムイ（オオバンヒザラガイ）」という貝に似ていることからつけられた名前です。
この島には伝説が残っており、昔、ムイとアワビがけんかをしていつまでも争いをやめなかったため、神様がこのムイの島西側はアワビの国、東側はムイの国と棲み分けをしたそうです。
